Two-unknow gunmen, on Wednesday, shot a POS operator to death a Point at the Oke Ogba area of Akure, the Ondo State capital. This incidence happens not less than 24 hours after a worker of a publishing company was shot dead during a robbery operation at the Ajipowo area/Ogundipe Estate of Akure. The PoS operator, who was identified as Adetutu, according to source said that the lady was shot by one of the men, who went to her shop on a motorcycle and pretended to be there for a business transaction.
An eyewitness narrated that the deceased, who was said to have been operating in the area for some months, met her untimely death when the robbers shot her and collected an undisclosed amount of money from her.
The eyewitness said, “The woman and her sales girl were in the shop when the bandits came on a motorcycle and pretended to want to do business with her. As they were trying to forcefully collect money from her, she attempted to run out of the shop. So, one of them shot her and collected an unknown amount of money from her.
“When other shop owners and residents of the area heard the gunshot, they ran for safety. This gave the hoodlums the opportunity to escape from the area.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the command had begun an investigation into it.
On the rising cases of robbery in Akure in recent times, the PPRO stated that the command was already working towards taming the ugly trend in the capital city and other towns in the state.
Joseph said, “We have commenced an investigation into Wednesday’s robbery and I want to assure you that those criminals will soon be arrested.
We are re-strategizing our security architecture. The Commissioner of Police has met all the DPOs in the state and I am sure that the situation will be brought under control.”
