INEC Chairman’s Heartbreaking Election Postponement To 23rd February


The INEC Chairman  Professor Mahmood Yakubu says this was a troublesome choice to take however is for the enthusiasm of our majority rule government. should defer the presidential decision to one weekend from now which is Saturday 23rd February

This is the speech  made by the INEC executive :

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) met on Friday, fifteenth February 2019 and assessed its arrangements for the 2019 General Election booked for Saturday, sixteenth February 2019 and Saturday, second March 2019.

Following a cautious audit of the usage of its coordinations and operational arrangement and the assurance to lead free, reasonable and sound decisions, the Commission arrived at the resolution that procedure with the races as booked is never again attainable.

Therefore, the Commission has chosen to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, 23rd February 2019. Besides, the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections are rescheduled to Saturday ninth March 2019. This will bear the cost of the Commission the chance to address distinguished difficulties so as to keep up the nature of our races.

This was a troublesome choice for the Commission to take, yet essential for the fruitful conveyance of the races and the combination of majority rules system.

The Commission will meet key partners to refresh them on this advancement at 2 p.m. on Saturday, sixteenth February 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Center.
